Although it's quite cold in Needham this time of year, many students have been (as usual) planning ahead and thinking about what they'd like to be doing next summer or fall, either as an intern or employee at a company, or as a new grad student.
Here's what Olin students have been up to on the Post-Graduate Planning Front:
Resumes, cover letters, interviews, conferences!! Hiring has been at an all time high on campus this semester. Companies like Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Apple, Intuit, Tyco, National Instruments and GE have been spending a lot of time here talking to our students. In addition, 26 Olin SWE (Society of Women Engineers) members traveled to Florida in early November, and as a result one senior accepted a job offer from Pratt and Whitney, and internships with Boeing, Goldman Sachs, Cummins, Boston Scientific and Ashland have been secured.
While many of our students are set for the summer, the rest look forward to meeting some of our newer partner companies (Protedyne, Nstar and Physical Science, Inc) at the Spring Career Fair planned for Wed, February 9th.
For the many Olin students interested in getting in on the ground floor, there will be "Start-up Company Demo Day" on Feb. 16th . Students will be able explore the cool technologies that these companies are working on.
And then there is a whole sub-section of the senior class that has been focusing on grad school admissions. Working with Grad School Adviser Laura Cotten, they have been securing faculty rec letters, pulling transcripts, writing personal essays and putting together the strongest applications to be submitted to the top graduate programs in the nation. Another 6 students and alumni finished the vigorous process of applying for the Fulbright scholarship. Stay tuned for results of all this activity in the spring - fingers are crossed!
For now, some very bleary-eyed students have packed up and headed to their homes to enjoy well-deserved rest and time with family and friends. When they are ready to re-focus their efforts on jobs and internships after the holidays, PGP will be here for them - lining up company visits, seminars, hiring events and mock interview sessions to ensure their readiness.
Happy New Year from the Post Graduate Planning Team!
